Frequently Asked Questions

Before purchasing any products or memberships there are always many questions that people have. We have listed some of the most asked questions here in the hope that they might assist you in making the right decision.

Memberships and Products

Can I test out one of your products before purchasing a membership?

We currently have front end demonstrations for most of our products available. All previous (old) versions of the products are released free under the AGPLv3 licence and can be downloaded on a free membership.

Can I keep using the products if I cancel my membership?

Yes you can. However, you won't continue to receive the patches or updates for each product. You will also not be entitled to the same degree of support.

I only want one product. Can I buy it separately?

We have chosen a membershup model for several reasons, one of which is the ability to provide more value for less cost. If we were to sell each product individually, the number of products sold would drop so we would be forced to raise the prices. So you would end up paying more for a single product then you would for a membership for all products.

Very few people wouldn't agree that access to multiple products is better value than access to a single product at a higher price.

I don't have a Paypal account, how do I pay?

At the moment we only have one payment gateway - Paypal. Keep in mind that there are very few credit cards that PayPal does not accept.

I work for a non-profit with a low budget. How can we afford the membership?

We are always willing to work with people from non-profit groups, or for that matter anyone without the funds to purchase a membership. If you have development experience you can earn a membership - see 'Fixing to get in'

I paid for my membership and have activated my account, but I can't download. Why not?

Sometimes you may need to log out, clear your browser cache, and then in again before your account updates itself. This is because some browers are a little over enthusiastic about remembering your session information in Joomla and it continues to remember your old membership level.

Licences and Support

Are free memberships entitled to any support?

Free memberships are entitled to our lowest level of support. This means that you will only receive assistance after all our paid memberships have.

What licences are your products covered by?

We licence our products under the AGPLv3 licence. However you may find included source code bearing a different (but GPL compatible) licence, such as the MIT license in mootools.

How many sites can I use your products on?

Because we licence our products under an Open Source licence, there is no limit to the amount of sites you may use the products on.

Why have you chosen to use an Open Source licence and not a proprietary one?

Many development companies these days choose to licence their products under a restrictive proprietary licence, and we would probably make alot more money that way. But Open Source is about freedom and ensuring a sustainable future.

Isn't selling Open Source products illegal, or at least immoral?

This is a common misconception and entirely incorrect. Many Free Open Source Software (FOSS) projects are 'no cost' to download. But this doesn't mean they have to be. The 'Free' in FOSS refers to freedom, and not to price. Just read the third paragraph of the GPL Licence which is the most common FOSS licence in the world.

We also feel that there is nothing immoral about our prices, taking into account the level of support we provide, and the number and quality of our products. We believe we offer some of the best support options available to Joomla developers.
