Finalising the move to K2

Wednesday, 05 May 2010 15:08

We've finally completed our move to K2 as our news management component.

As K2 is such an extensible component we were able to add a couple of features to our site that we have been looking at implementing for a while.

New features:

  • All products now have proper changelog and update categories which help users stay in touch with the changes that we will be rolling out across our products.
  • Added a 'Blog' area where we can post random and interesting content.
  • All articles on the frontpage now have been tagged with the most relevant content. This will also help you follow the information flow throughout our site.
  • Social Bookmarking has been added to each individual article allowing all users to show off their favourite articles.

We'd like to thank the guys over at JoomlaWorks who have done a great job with K2 and have also provided great support through the K2 community site.

ANZAC Day - Lest we forget! Editor's Pick

Friday, 23 April 2010 13:07

This weekend Australia will be remembering the heroic actions of our fore-fathers as they fought in a foreign land to protect our country. But what is ANZAC day and what does it stand for?

What is ANZAC Day?

ANZAC Day – 25 April – is probably Australia's most important national occasion. It marks the anniversary of the first major military action fought by Australian and New Zealand forces during the First World War.

What does ANZAC stand for?

ANZAC stands for Australian and New Zealand Army Corps. The soldiers in those forces quickly became known as ANZACs, and the pride they took in that name endures to this day.

Why is this day special to Australians?

When war broke out in 1914, Australia had been a federal commonwealth for only 13 years. The new national government was eager to establish its reputation among the nations of the world. In 1915 Australian and New Zealand soldiers formed part of the allied expedition that set out to capture the Gallipoli peninsula in order to open the Dardanelles to the allied navies. The ultimate objective was to capture Constantinople (now Istanbul in Turkey), the capital of the Ottoman Empire, an ally of Germany.

The Australian and New Zealand forces landed on Gallipoli on 25 April, meeting fierce resistance from the Ottoman Turkish defenders. What had been planned as a bold stroke to knock Turkey out of the war quickly became a stalemate, and the campaign dragged on for eight months. At the end of 1915 the allied forces were evacuated, after both sides had suffered heavy casualties and endured great hardships. Over 8,000 Australian soldiers had been killed. News of the landing on Gallipoli had made a profound impact on Australians at home, and 25 April soon became the day on which Australians remembered the sacrifice of those who had died in the war.

Although the Gallipoli campaign failed in its military objectives, the Australian and New Zealand actions during the campaign left us all a powerful legacy. The creation of what became known as the “ANZAC legend” became an important part of the identity of both nations, shaping the ways they viewed both their past and their future.

Looking for Beta Testers

Wednesday, 21 April 2010 13:04

After collating a large amount of emails from our users regarding their interest in our hosting service we have decided to undertake a BETA test of our hosting service.

If you are interested in helping us test our hosting services we are looking for 50 beta testers who will provide us with feedback based on their experiences with our hosting.

We recommend that these Beta Testers have a strong experience with cPanel/PHP/Apache/Joomla so that they can test our Joomla hosting and the strength of our servers.

If you are interested, please post details of the hosting package you currently use at your current host in our forums under the 'Hosting' category. We will assess the capabilities of our servers and individually assess all applications.

Please note:

  • Our Beta hosting services should not be used for a 'live' website merely testing and debugging. But feel free to duplicate your live site onto our servers so we can accurately gauge your requirements
  • We do not provide 'unlimited' hosting and unrealistic hosting requests will be denied.
